Kibogoyo.

Now, this is a story I was told about how KWS deals with small-time poachers. For the purposes of this article, a small-time poacher is a human being who catches wild animals for the purpose of eating them. You can call it subsistence poaching. Animals that are usually caught in this manner include wild deer, rabbits, buffaloes, hippopotamuses and other delectable herbivores.

Now, to be clear, I think this is a load of bullshit, like that story about the sacrament turning to blood when you put it in your pocket to go with it outside.

So, this is the story; when you get caught by KWS rangers hunting wild animals, they give you a liquid medicine which you have to put in your mouth. Then, you are ordered to look up towards the sky and gurgle for five minutes (obviously a while) then spit out the results.

So you look down to make the spitting more efficient, and guess what? Your teeth choose this moment to march out of your mouth in bloody protest.

You are now officially a toothless dog, cursed to no longer enjoy the pleasures of tearing and chewing meat (and most other things).

Before I reflect on this, I would like to mention a variation of this story which mentions that you actually drink this medicine and, in a short while, all your teeth fall out of formation. Obviously, you can't (would you?) swallow them, so out they go.

Damn.

So, hypothetically, let us say this is true. Is it a just punishment for eating a wild animal? What is the value of this animal vis-a-vis that of a human being, and why are human beings not killed for killing other human beings? Does poaching warrant a punishment that will deprive you of the ability to enjoy life for the rest of your life? Does it make sense? What kind of satanic intelligence drives people to do such a thing?

After those heavy ponderings, I think the most likely scenario to occur here is this: when actually caught by these rangers, most especially if under eighteen, you will be ordered to put your face on the ground and your hands and arsehole in the air, then they give you a beating you will never forget and let you go.

If an adult, you will be given a beating you will never forget, then get arrested and later arraigned, which will most likely result in you getting put inside for a very long time with the possibility of having objects put inside you for a very long time.

I am not objected to the use of beatings in this case when judiciously applied, especially if the rangers' lives or physical well-being is at stake; I object to eternal torture.
